Overview

The Department of Special Services provides assistance to students with disabilities between the ages of three through twenty-one. There are a variety of services available including Child Study Team diagnostic services, special education, transition, and related services. All personnel servicing students with disabilities are appropriately certified and licensed, where a license is required.

Child Study Team services are conducted by members of the Child Study Team, which include a Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant, a School Psychologist, a School Social Worker, and a speech and language therapist.

All students with disabilities who are in need of special education and related services, including students with disabilities attending nonpublic schools, regardless of the severity of their disability, are located, identified and evaluated according to N.J.A.C. 6A: 14:3.3. Decisions regarding the child are collaboratively made by Child Study Team Members, the parent(s)/guardian(s), and any other individuals having knowledge of the child.

A full continuum of placements shall be available to meet the needs of students with disabilities, ages three through twenty-one, for special education and related services. Educational options include placement in general education, in-class resource programs, replacement resource programs, and special class programs in-district and out-of-district.

If you or someone you know has a child with a suspected or known developmental delay or disability, contact the Department of Special Services at 201-762-2282.
